Diana Mercier

With nearly 36 years of continuous training at the Port Credit Academy of Martial Arts, Shihan Mercier is one of the longest-standing and most respected instructors at the dojo. Holding the rank of 7th-degree black belt (Shichidan), she brings a lifetime of knowledge, adaptability, and warmth to every class.

Teaching Across Ages

Shihan's teaching spans all ages, from energetic 6-year-olds to focused adults. With younger students, she thrives on finding creative, playful ways to keep training fun and meaningful. Seeing their eyes light up after earning a stripe or belt is one of her greatest joys. With teens and adults, she loves diving deep into kata and self-defense, breaking down movements and discovering new layers of detail together.

Her own training continues to evolve. Even after decades in the dojo, Shihan still finds something new in the basics, proving that martial arts is a lifelong journey of refinement and growth.

Beyond the Dojo

Before becoming a full-time instructor, Shihan built a successful career in transportation and logistics. Her diverse background has shaped her ability to connect with students from all walks of life. Today, she teaches and works as a dedicated team member at the Academy.

Outside the dojo, she enjoys reading, walking, movies, and community theatre. She has also spent time canoeing, dancing, and exploring other forms of movement and art.

Shihan Mercier's presence reflects experience, humility, and joy in teaching, making her an enduring and inspirational figure at PCAMA.
